Meet Michelle Sablan...
Michelle Sablan will be competing in the Walt Disney World Challenge as part of Roswell Park Cancer Institute's Team Cure Challenge.
TC Technologies hopes to raise $5000 for her by donating $1 for each compatible toner cartridge sold.
Please visit her Team Cure Challenge page to post a message of encouragement or make a donation.
Throughout her life, Michelle has continually dedicated herself to the service of
others. During elementary and middle school, she volunteered at soup kitchens and tutored other students. In high school, she used her talent as a hula dancer and martial artist to
provide shows as fundraisers for her local community. Her hula group earned Volunteer of the Year in 1998 in Yongsan, Korea. She has been recognized for her efforts during her college
career at Canisius College. She was one of a selected few invited to be a member of the Di Gamma honor society, which acknowledges the efforts of students in the service of the
institution. She was a member of the ROTC program at Canisius College, and upon completion of her studies, she was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army.
Michelle served in the Army for four years, during which she was promoted to Captain. Michelle was deployed to Iraq as part of Operation
Iraqi Freedom II in 2004. She was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for her actions as Detachment Commander during her one year deployment. Upon completion of her service commitment, she
returned to Buffalo and studied to become a Licensed Massage Therapist.
With her new career, Michelle has continued to donate her time to help others. She presently offers
complimentary chair massage for residents of the Woodlands Senior Citizen Complex. Additionally, she will be performing chair massage for Hope Chest Dragon Boat Team fundraiser.
This will raise funds to provide fitness and health education to those affected by breast cancer and survivors. Michelle has been inspired to help those affected by cancer, which
struck a personal cord as her grandfather passed away from colon cancer three weeks before her wedding.
Now,
Michelle looks to face a new challenge. She will draw on the physical training she received in the Army to prepare for the Walt Disney World Marathon in January, 2010. This
personal challenge is being coupled with a mission to raise funds for Roswell Park Cancer institute. As a member of Team Cure Challenge, her efforts will help to continue the search
for a cure.
